As a debut writer with no MFA, I’ve leaned heavily on the resources that are available to writers for free online.
Here are some of my favorites:
Podcasts
Each episode begins with two critiques of query letters, and then continues with an author interview.
Bonus episodes feature Emilie from East City Books, who recommends comp titles.
Each episode interviews one author, often very well known, and talks about their writing routine for getting words down on the page.
Bite-sized pieces of information from published author Mary Adkins about all facets of the writing process.
Reedsy
Looking for a free online tool to help replace Google Docs/Word, but not quite ready for Scrivener? Use Reedsy’s book editor tool!
It has an outline format, a cork board view for plotting, the ability to make character-specific pages, and more. I used it to write the full first draft of my novel and I loved it; it was extremely intuitive.
The blog and website also lets you hire editors and cover designers, or export in EPUB format if you’re looking to digitally self publish.
